The Temple of Sun or Ritan park (日坛公园) is one of the four royal shrines (sun, moon, earth and heven), and is the altar of the Sun. Built in 1530 it was used by Ming and Qing Emperors to make sacrifices to the gods. But now Ritan park is one of Beijing’s more peaceful parks.

Ritan park is definitely not the crowned tourist attraction, then you can see the locals do many activities here such as taichi, dancing and playing with their children.

Just walking, relaxing in the park and let's the nature refreshing yourself. There are many pavilions located in the top of imitate mountains around the park.

The altar of the sun was built in circle shape, unlike the altar of earth which has square shape. Sadly, the altar of the sun was close for visiting.

To visit Ritan, you can take subway line 6 to Dongdaqiao Station or subway line 1 or 2 to Jianguomen Station. Ritan is free of charge.
