6 hours by train from Beijing, I arrived Datong in the morning. After had some breakfast near train station, I went to Hanging Temple in Hengshan mountain. This temple was in my list for many years after I watched Discovery Channel about China. Finally, I was here.
Hanging Temple is one of the main tourist attractions and historical sites in the Datong area. Built more than 1,500 years ago, the body of the building hangs from the middle of the cliff under the prominent summit, protecting the temple from rain erosion and sunlight.
Because I went there in winter, the temperature was -14 degree Celsius, so there was few tourist. Every places seem to be so quiet. Many stores was close during the winter. Even if in old town of Datong, there were also few tourist around. When I claimed up to the Datong City Wall in afternoon, it's only me there. Such a private trip!!!
The next destination was Yuagang Grottoes which is also the famous tourist attraction of Datong. It has 252 caves and 51,000 statues, represent the outstanding achievement of Buddhist cave art in China in the 5th and 6th centuries. The landscape around was so beautiful but the green was already gone. It must be great to visit here in spring with flower blooming and lively green of plants.
I ended Datong trip by wandering around Datong old town and captured the night view of Datong old town's gate,
Goodbye Datong.
