Baiwangshan Forest Park

Beijing, China

17-05-2019

Baiwangshan (百望山) located in Haidian District, northwest of Beijing. At the mountain top, you can see the suburb of Beijing.

Baiwangshan forest park's entrance fee was 8 RMB. (price at 2019) According to 'Chinese standard', this park considered as not big.

The roads on the mountain are mostly smooth, so you will see many families hiking here with children and elderly. (Actually, in China, no matter the walking path will be smooth or not, you can always see groups of elderly hiking in the mountains )

There are many Chinese calligraphy carved into stone stele displayed in the park.

There are glass terrace (at the right corner of below picture) and glass bridge which you can enjoy the mountains scenery.

At the top of the mountain, there is a memorial hall of Yang family. The legend said in Song Dynasty, there was warriors' family called Yang family. The men in Yang family went to the war and died in the battle. Only 3 men survived which caused the women in the family go to the war to support them. The mother Yang climbed to the top of Baiwangshan to support her son's battle. After that, Baiwangshan was called 'wangershan' or 'watching her son from the mountain' .

Transportation : take a bus no.584 from Beigongmen subway station (北宫门)of subway line 4 and get off at Baiwangshan Senlin Gongyuan (百望山森林公园). The bus cost 2 RMB.

Score : 6/10 They said the best time for Baiwangshan is autumn because of the sea of red autumn leaves. However, I went there in spring and all I met was sand, dust and brown. The green color came from trees' leave only. The ground was sandy. Anyway, I quite enjoyed the trail, the glass terrace and the legend of Yang family that I unexpectedly met at the top of the mountain.
